Infrastructure Bill made the Queen’s Speech

Date posted: June 9, 2014

The coalition Government has set out its agenda for its final legislative programme before the General Election next May in the Queen’s Speech, the formal state opening of Parliament. Delivering the speech for the 63rd time, the Queen set out the legislation her Government will pursue between now and next April.

The agenda includes an Infrastructure Bill, which will include further planning reform. The Queen said: “My Government will introduce a bill to bolster investment in infrastructure and reform planning law to improve economic competitiveness.”

The Queen announced that “legislation will allow for the creation of an allowable solutions scheme to enable all new homes to be built to a zero carbon standard…”, but importantly the bill will also allow house builders to offset the carbon emissions of new homes, in order to meet the regulations.
